President’s Report:
Ron Scott stated we have received our audit from our CPA.
Old Business:
Ron Scott stated at our annual meeting George Fusner announced we were in litigation with the Calvin Howell over the golf course property. One thing we are trying to do instead of litigation is to come up with an offer to purchase the golf course back. There are a lot of benefits to Grand Valley by doing that. We are actively engaged in preparing an offer at this time. This is not obligating us to anything, it is just an offer. If we do come to an agreement, the entire Grand Valley POA would have to vote to accept or reject that offer.
Lona Coffee announced that we have $26,350.00 in spillway donations.
Ron Scott gave an update on the spillway gate. It will take 4-6 weeks to get the drawings and 8-12 weeks for it to be fabricated and delivered. We are looking at the aluminum gate quote is $13,900 plus sales tax and shipping. Jean Harrison made a motion to go forward with purchase of the aluminum gate, Donna McClarin seconded; motion carried.
Stan Doyle gave an update on the timber cutting. This will be on the northwest corner of Grand Valley. This area was chosen for a couple of reasons; it gets the least amount of traffic and there is only one house back there. There will be a ‘no cut’ buffer around that house. It is about a 100 acres. It will be select cut of 14” and above. Right now our best option is Tony Hooper because he owns the land west of us and he will never touch our asphalt roads. He will cut and then go out through his property. And it will be 50/50 split and the estimate they gave is a minimum of $1,000 per acre. There was discussion with the members present. David West moved to approve going forward with Tony Hooper as the logger, Jean Harrison seconded; motion carried.
Johnny Rustin gave an update on the successful end of school party. There were approximately 27 children in attendance and everyone had a great time. Johnny and Tiffany received a round of applause for their time and effort in this.
New Business:
Ron Scott announced the boat parade and fireworks on Saturday July 3rd. Tom Wein stated the fireworks have been ordered; it is unclear what will be available. They will start at 9:00pm. Lona Coffee stated that the fire department (Tom) is cooking boston butts again this year for their annual fundraiser; order forms are in the box. Jim Gehringer announced the boat parade theme will be 50’s/60’s/70’s/80’s decade; it will start at 4:00pm.
Ron Scott stated we have a second lawsuit on the roof contract. Affordable Construction vs. Auto Owners with GVL joined as third party. This lawsuit has been settled. This lawsuit has been ongoing for two years and was filed after the Affordable Construction lawsuit against GVL was dismissed. Affordable then sued the insurance company because they did not put Affordable as a payee on the settlement. GVL became involved as a third party in the second lawsuit. Our attorney cooperated with Auto Owners to get this lawsuit dismissed by federal court. As a third party claim GVL was required to pay $17,000 in attorney fees; George Fusner was successful in reducing this to $10,000. Upon payment GVL is released from any further action. Jean Harrison moved to pay the legal fees of $10,000 to have the case dismissed, Donna McClarin seconded; motion carried.
Tom Wein stated that there has been a lot more dogs running loose lately. Please keep
your dogs on a leash. We do have restrictions on this and the property owner can be fined.
Staff reports:
Maintenance: Tom Wein stated he repaired two minor water leaks. There is a fire hydrant leak but the weather has kept me from getting to it. They have been doing maintenance on equipment and have been repairing roads. The dozer tracks are on; they have been pushing back the sides of the roads with the side-hog.
Security Report: Tom Wein stated we had 64 calls from the gate for various reasons.
Club Reports:
